Mr Monkey visits Staircase House and the Stockport Story, 10th August

"It seems to be time to eat"

Mr Monkey found himself in a room decorated and furnished as an 18th century dining room. The table was laid out with the sort of meal you might eat if your cook had been using a copy of The Experienced English Housekeeper, a cookery book published in the mid-18th century by a Stockport woman called Elizabeth Raffald. The plates are original 18th century china which had been kept underwater in a shipwreck for 200 years, and the portraits are from the estate of the Bradshaw family of Marple Hall.
