In the next room Mr Monkey found an early 19th century parlour in which the middle class owners of Staircase House could sit around reading or making their own entertainment with the square piano. In 1819 this room would also have been a good place to watch the reformer Henry Hunt addressing a large crowd from the window of the Bull's Head on the other side of the Market Place. Of course, that was before they built the market hall.
