Mr Monkey came to the bedroom, which though rather small and very full of a rather large tester bed, was an important room in the 17th century when it was quite respectable to stay in bed when people came to visit you. In most homes, the owner's bed would be the single most expensive piece of furniture in house. Mr Monkey bent down to examine the ropes around the bottom that stop the mattress falling onto the floor and squashing the truckle bed underneath it.
