Mr Monkey stopped in the 17th century parlour. This is where the Shallcross family would entertain their friends, while making sure that the friends could see how wealthy the Shallcross family was. Mr Monkey inspected the panelling, the height of fashion in the mid-17th century (though most of what's there now is a replacement after the 1995 fire), and examined the table. He couldn't work out what card game Mr Shallcross and his guests had been playing while they emptied a bottle or two.
