Mr Monkey scurried carefully across the sand, avoiding the bits of sea left over from earlier. Under the pier he examined the complicated and rather grimy and dripping structure holding the pier together. Mr Monkey thinks it was all this metalwork that stopped the pier falling over when ships ran into it in 1892 and 1897.
