Mr Monkey visits Knaresborough Castle, July 20th

"It's dark and cold and gloomy in here"

The ground floor was built as a store room, but became a prison in the 17th century. Parliament would have blown the whole of the tower up after the Civil War if the people of Knaresborough hadn't wanted to keep their prison. Mr Monkey thought it wouldn't be nice to be imprisoned there, and made a run for the stairs. On the way up, he examined masons marks and medieval grafitti on the staircase walls.
