Mr Monkey in Bristol, March 14th

"This is how they keep the water in the harbour"

Mr Monkey walked back along Hotwell Road until he got to the lock at the entrance to Bristol harbour. This is the 1873 lock designed by Thomas Howard to replace the one Brunel built in 1843. It's this lock that keeps the water inside the floating harbour so that the boats in the harbour don't have to lie down in the mud at low tide.

You can get instructions on using this lock at the Bristol City Council website.
