Mr Monkey scurried up the street from the tunnel. On one side of the road was the Glue Pot pub, which got its name from being the local for the carpenters from the woodworking shop. On the other side of the road was the Mechanic's Institute. They started building this in 1854, and when it opened it had an office, a classroom, an alcohol-free refreshment room, and hot and cold baths. It's a bit of a wreck now, and Mr Monkey was deeply unimpressed by the square tower at the far end.
