In the middle of the Place des Martyrs, Mr Monkey looked at the monument commemorating 467 people who died during the Belgian revolution. The names of the dead are inscribed around the walls behind the arches, but the stairs down to them are locked so Mr Monkey couldn't see any of them. Mr Monkey thinks the whole monument would have been a lot more impressive if they hadn't put it into a deep pit.
You can read about the Belgian revolution and how long it took the Dutch king to accept Belgian indepedence at the Wikipedia website.
