"It must have been a good opera"

On the way to the Belgian Comic Strip Centre, Mr Monkey went past the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and through the Place des Martyrs. The theatre was built in 1819, and is notable for having started the Belgian revolution. In 1830, theatregoers were so inflamed by a performance of The Mute Girl of Portici, an opera about Italian independence, that they rushed out, raised the flag of Brabant and declared Belgium independent from Dutch rule.
