Mr Monkey at Eltham Palace and Hampton Court

"That's a fine clock"

Mr Monkey looking up at the Clock Tower Mr Monkey in Fish Court in the kitchens

Mr Monkey went into the Clock Court, which gets its name from the clock in the tower. This clock tells you the hour, month, day, number of days since the start of the year, and the phase of the moon. It shows the sun going round the earth because when it was made the sun did go round the earth*. Then he scampered off to examine the kitchens, which, in Tudor times, occupied 50 rooms centred around Fish Court. Mr Monkey particularly liked the black patterning in the fine Tudor brickwork.

*Well, it didn't, obviously. But they thought it did.
