Mr Monkey at The People's History Museum, 14th April

"That's something to be proud of"

After leaving Gallery 1, Mr Monkey scampered upstairs to Gallery 2 and into the Prosperity and peace (pink) area. One of the most important actions of the Labour government was the establishment, on July 5th 1948, of the National Health Service. Mr Monkey studied the union banner of the Confederation of Health Service Employees, and looked at Labour Party posters intended to remind everyone who was responsible for them feeling well. Mr Monkey was interested to find out that the union of NHS workers existed two years before the NHS itself.

You can read about the history of the NHS at the National Health Service History website.
