Mr Monkey at The People's History Museum, 14th April

"That pipe symbolises the Labour victory, you know"

When he came to the inter-war exhibits, Mr Monkey was fascinated to see some newspapers published during the 1926 General Strike, when most of the people who actually knew how to print a newspaper were on strike and the owners had to do everything themselves. At the end of the gallery Mr Monkey listened to a radio announcing the result of the 1945 General Election, and looked at Clement Atlee's pipe.

You can read about the General Strike at the BBC GCSE Bitesize website and about the 1945 election at the BBC History website.
