From the Circus, Mr Monkey was led up to the Tower Ballroom. This was opened in 1899 as a response to the opening of the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens. Destroyed by fire in 1956, it was rebuilt using Frank Matcham's original plans. When it was first opened, the Blackpool Tower Company was very pleased to announce that the roof opened to provide ventilation.
