Mr Monkey in De Panne, 18th September

"He's staring out to sea, you know"

Walking along the promenade Mr Monkey found the memorial commemorating the evacuation of British and Allied troops from the De Panne beaches in 1940. The final headquarters of the Bristish Expeditionary Force before the Dunkirk evacuation was in De Panne. Nearby Mr Monkey saw a statue of Pier Kleoffe, whose real name was Petrus Decreton and who was a fisherman who sailed to Iceland nine times to fish for cod, each time under sail in a galette*.

* which is often mistaken for a sort of pancake. It's very unlikely anyone would sail to Iceland in a pancake.
