Mr Monkey walks the Macclesfield Canal from Marple to Wood Lanes, 17th March

"Those boats do upset the water so"

Mr Monkey trotted along the canal towpath through Hawk Green. For the rest of the day he walked on the towpath on the western side of the canal. Generally the land is higher on the eastern side of the canal, which meant that when the canal was built in 1831 the western side needed more work, so they put the towpath on top of it while they were about it. Mr Monkey was pleased to see that a variety of boats were using the canal.
