There had been a cemetery at Vyšehrad since the middle ages and its links to Czech legend and history made it a natural choice when Czech nationalists were looking for a site for a Czech National Cemetery. Mr Monkey went into the cemetery and looked at the many monuments. He particularly admired the winged Genius of the Nation on top of the Slavin (Pantheon), a mausoleum for the most notable figures in Czech political and cultural life. So far there are 54 Czechs buried in the Slavin.
