Mr Monkey at the Vyšehrad National Cultural Monument, 9th June

"Usually the duller explanation is the true one"

Mr Monkey looking at a relief map of Vyšehrad Mr Monkey looking at the Devil's Pillar

Mr Monkey had a quick look at a relief map of Vyšehrad, just to check he was where he thought he was. Then he had a look at the Devil's Pillar. A legend claims that the devil had bet a priest that he could bring a pillar from Rome before the priest finished saying Mass. Due to the intervention of St Peter the devil lost his bet and his temper, so he threw the pillar through the roof of the church. A more likely (and less entertaining) theory is that it's a bit left over from the 11th century Basilica of St Peter.
