Mr Monkey in the footsteps of Jane Austen, 3rd June

"Jane Austen liked going to the theatre, you know"

Mr Monkey scampered along to the Theatre Royal. There's been a Theatre Royal in Bath since 1798, and it's been on this site since 1806. The 1806 theatre burned down in 1862 and was rebuilt by 1863. Next to the theatre, Mr Monkey looked at the house that Richard 'Beau' Nash, the social leader of Bath, was living in with his mistress Juliana Popjoy when he died. Despite a life of scandal, gambling and general excess (though he only had one mistress at a time) Nash was 86 when he died.

You can read about the theatre at the Theatre Royal website and about Nash at the BBC website.
