Mr Monkey in the footsteps of Jane Austen, 3rd June

"That's a convincing reason to knock a building down"

Following the instructions from Mr Rik's mp3 player, Mr Monkey started his tour by looking at the front of Bath Abbey, the third church on the site. Mr Monkey admired the carvings on the west front, which show angels climbing up and down a ladder to heaven. Apparently Bishop Oliver King dreamt of these angels in 1499 and was inspired to demolish the existing Norman church. The church was damaged during the Dissolution and finished in 1611.

Mr Monkey spotted one of King Bladud's pigs outside the church.
