Mr Monkey in Rotterdam, 26th March

"You'd think they'd be afraid of damaging the decoration by ramming things, wouldn't you?"

Mr Monkey came to the point where the Wijnhaven meets the Leuvehaven. He looked back along the Wijnhaven, then examined the bows of the Buffel, an ironclad ram-ship built in Glasgow for the Royal Netherlands Navy in 1868. It was the first Dutch warship without sails, and carried a pair of 9.2 inch Armstrong guns in a central turret.

You can read about the Buffel at the Historic Naval Ships Association website.
