Mr Monkey takes a York boat tour, 26th February

"I don't think I'd like to live somewhere that expects to be flooded"

York tends to get flooded if there's a lot of rain in the hills, and the pilot of the boat pointed out the flood defences - watertight doors to the gardens - along the river above Lendal Bridge. After going under the bridge Mr Monkey saw the Guildhall, built in the 15th century as a meeting place for York's guilds and almost destroyed in a Luftwaffe raid in 1942. Mr Monkey spotted the scorch marks left on the outside wall when incendaries gutted the building.
