Mr Monkey in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, 4th October

"It doesn't look like a haunt of highwaymen now"

Mr Monkey left the underground at Knightsbridge and was soon outside Albert Gate, which was apparently a lot more impressive when it was built in 1845 than it is now. He scurried across Rotten Row. This used to be called the route du roi and became the first road in all England to to be lit at night in 1690 when William III arranged for 300 lamps to be hung from the trees lining it. This was supposed to dissuade highwaymen.
