Mr Monkey in Harrogate, 20th July

"They always make Stella murder herself"

In the early evening, Mr Monkey saw Margaret Kinsman moderating a panel in which Laura Wilson, Donna Coonan from Virago, Philip Gooden and James Twining talked about Daphne Du Maurier, even though Mr Monkey didn't really think she was really a crime writer. Later in the evening he marvelled as, yet again, Stella Duffy managed to murder herself on the instructions of Simon Brett while Mark Billingham pretended to be a suspect, Stuart McBride failed to investigate, and Laura Lippman correctedly guessed who the murderer was. The detectives had to announce their findings before Stella murdered herself, obviously.

On Saturday morning, Mr Monkey went to a panel about accuracy in historical crime fiction, and saw Tom Harper moderate Lindsay Davis, Jason Goodwin, Manda Scott, and Andrew Taylor.
