Mr Monkey sees AAA - Shaun Ryder and Friends at the Manchester Photographic, 11th August
After visiting Everything Must Go at the CAC, Mr Monkey scampered into the Northern Quarter to see AAA - Shaun Ryder and Friends at the Manchester Photographic gallery.
Karin Albinsson was born and grew up in Sweden, studied photography in England and has been based in Manchester since 1995.
She is a documentary and portrait photographer who has photographed the music scene for over 15 years, is the official photographer for the annual versuscancer concert, and produces excellent behind the scenes images.
She has also, as Mr Monkey discovered, taken a lot of pictures of Shaun Ryder which form the core of this exhibition (the clue is in the title).
The exhibition is displayed over all three floors of the Manchester Photographic.
On the the ground floor is Black Grape in which the focus is on Shaun Ryder and Black Grape, on the top floor there is On Tour with Shaun with more recent images of Mr Ryder, while sandwiched between them on the first floor there are Ten Mancs which include Noel Gallagher and the late Anthony H. Wilson.
The pictures are a mixture of action shots of live performances, posed portraits, and more informal or intimate off-duty shots. Mr Monkey particularly liked the picture of Shaun and his daughter and the rather downbeat Guinness for breakfast.
Mr Monkey enjoyed looking at Karin's photographs, and thinks this is a very good exhibition - a must-see for all afficiandos of Mr Ryder and the Manchester music scene.
