Mr Monkey at Crystal Palace Park, September 22nd

"This probably used to look more inviting"

Mr Monkey scampered past the terraces where the Crystal Palace stood between 1854 when it was moved from Hyde Park and 1936 when it burned down. Mr Monkey looked at all the damaged statues and terraces and tried to imagine what it was like when there was a giant greenhouse made with 4,000 tons of iron and 400 tons of glass, but it was a little difficult.

You can read about the history of the Crystal Palace at the Crystal Palace Foundation website and about the controversy about what to do with the site at the Crystal Palace Campaign website.
