Mr Monkey in Ghent, September 16th

"It's all part of a festival, you know"

Mr Monkey stopped to watch a band called the Fanfare Kimbanguiste playing on the Korenlei. The Fanfare Kimbanguiste seems to be the musical wing of Kimbanguism, the first African-based branch of Christianity to be recognized by the World Council of Churches. Scampering around the band, Mr Monkey examined the Ghent barge. This is a replica of the 18th century horse-drawn barges that used to take passengers from Ghent to Bruges (and probably back again).

You can read about Kimbanguism at the Wikipedia website and about the Ghent barge at Gentse Barge website.
