Mr Monkey in Nieuwpoort, August 25th

"It's very pleasant here, isn't it?"

Walking the Kaai in Nieuwport, Mr Monkey found a monument to mariners lost at sea during the Second World War. He suspected that the snail was a recent addition. He looked across the river at the memorial to Albert I, who led the defence of Belgium in the Great War. The circular structure has a diameter of 30 metres, and the statue inside was completed in 1938, just in time for another world war.
