Mr Monkey sees naval warfare in Peasholm Park, August 10th

"They're very smoky, those ships"

After Mr Monkey had been waiting for a few minutes, some ships appeared round the side of the island in the middle of the lake. In the convoy were the merchantmen Jervis Bay and RMS Asturias, defended by HMS Exeter, HMS Ajax, HMS Achilles, and HMS Ark Royal. Mr Monkey was impressed by the amount of smoke the convoy was producing. There have been regular naval battles on this lake since 1927.
