After enjoying the museum, Mr Monkey explored the walls. The square tower in the background is the keep of the Norman castle, built for Ilbert de Lacy after the Norman conquest. The keep seems to be more or less the only bit of the medieval castle left, and you can't go up it, only walk round next to it.
