Mr Monkey sees little black dress at Urbis

"Little black dresses should be seen but not heard, it seems"

Mr Monkey with a pair of thirties black dresses Mr Monkey with pictures of Marlene Dietrich and Mae West

The little black dress exhibition has a combination of actual dresses, and pictures of famous women wearing them, and also has panels charting the history of the clothing industry in Manchester. And some Betty Boop cartoons. Mr Monkey studied a pair of dresses from the thirties, then looked at pictures of Mae West and Marlene Dietrich. Apparently, fur became fashionable on dresses when Hollywood started making talkies, because the beads on the 1920s fashions spoiled the sound.
