Mr Monkey in the Red Lodge

"It's a very wood-based environment, you know"

On the first floor, Mr Monkey visited the oldest rooms in the house, dating from 1590, starting with the great oak room. This was the main apartment, and is lined with heavily carved oak panelling. Mr Monkey admired the carvings, and the plaster ceiling, and then inspected the alabaster chimney piece over the fire, decorated with the coat of arms of Sir John Younge, who commissioned the house but died before it was completed.
