Mr Monkey in the U3

"I'm not sure I'd like to have a live torpedo behind my bed"

Mr Monkey found himself in the torpedo room of the U3. The submarine had three 53cm torpedo tubes, and carried a total of five torpedoes. The two torpedoes that weren't in the tubes to start with were stored behind the crew benches and beds, and it took six men thirty minutes to lift one and load it into the empty tube. The U3 was one of nine short range coastal submarines built between 1941 and 1944, which is probably why it only had the five torpedoes.

You can read about the U3 at the Malmö Town website.
