At the end of the tunnel under the railway and the Antonine Wall, the boat arrived at a turning basin. The lock in the second picture is the bottom end of a double staircase lock that raises boats another 7 metres up to the Union Canal. Mr Monkey wondered where he'd get to if he went up through the lock.
