Mr Monkey at the Comic Strip Centre

"It's a very fine building indeed, I think"

While he was on the top floor, Mr Monkey peered over the railings to look down at the building and up at the roof. He liked the way Horta's design let so much light filter down through the building. The building dates from 1906, and was designed as a store for the cloth wholesaler Charles Waucquez, who allegedly didn't want an Art Nouveau building, yet employed the leading Art Nouveau architect. Mr Monkey was impressed by the skylights in the roof, the mosiacs on the upper floor, the glass floors, and the slender cast iron pillars throughout.
