Mr Monkey at the Geffrye Museum

"They had to bring their own furniture, you know"

Mr Monkey paid a visit to Almshouse 14, in which two rooms have been restored. Downstairs, a room looks roughly as it would have done in the 1780s, with a retired ironmonger and his wife living in it. In the nineteenth century the pensioners came from a wider background, and one of the upstairs rooms is decorated as if an ex-governess was living there. You have to be in the Chapel at the right time to be able to tour Almshouse 14.
