Mr Monkey in New York, February 27

"You have to check these things, you know"

Mr Monkey seeing if a building really is made of cast iron Mr Monkey in the Cast Iron district

Crossing Canal Street, Mr Monkey found himself in the Cast Iron District. This is part of SoHo, and many of the buildings have cast iron facades bolted onto plain brickwork. This meant that buildings could have ornate decoration without costing too much. Mr Monkey spent more time than was really necessary tapping buildings to see if they sounded as if they were made of iron.
