Mr Monkey in Aberystwyth

"It's definitely seen better days, you know"

Mr Monkey scampered up into the castle, which was a lot easier to get around in daylight. Building this castle cost Edward I £3885, 12 shillings and 11½ pennies between 1277 and 1289, but it was starting to fall down by the mid-14th century. The castle annoyed Oliver Cromwell so much that he had it blown up in 1649. And, in 1916, some druids built a stone circle for their Eisteddfod.

You can read about the history of Aberystwyth castle at the Castles of Wales website.
