Mr Monkey decided to visit the Somerset County Museum, in Taunton Castle. The castle was started around 1138; for several centuries people added bits to it. Then they decided they didn't need castles any more, knocked bits of it down (Charles II was especially annoyed because Parliamentarians held the castle throughout most of the Civil War), let bits fall over, and built a hotel around the gatehouse. All that's really left of the castle now is the inner bailey.
