When he arrived at Biddulph Grange Gardens, Mr Monkey quickly scampered through the house - which isn't open to visitors - and out into the gardens. These gardens were laid out by James and Maria Bateman, and their friend Edward Cooke, in the mid-nineteenth century, allowed to decline after the house burned down and was converted into a hospital, and then carefully restored by the National Trust.
Biddulph Grange is a National Trust property, and you can read a bit about it at the National Trust website.
