Following the instructions from the audio guide, Mr Monkey went up a long flight of stairs, then turned left. He found that the new extension had been joined to the old building by a bridge. He trotted across the bridge, carefully not looking over the side in case it was a long way down, into a long passage known as the cloisters. The John Rylands Library was supposed to be a theological library and was built during the Gothic revival, so much of the architecture was intended to remind people of medieval religious institutions.
