Mr Monkey tours the Stockport Plaza Cinema, 12th September

"I'm not totally convinced by the Egyptianness of these Egyptians, you know"

Mr Monkey looked up at the lovingly restored decoration of the Plaza. The style is a sort of Egyptian-influenced Art Deco, with odd touches from other cultures, with many illuminated alcoves and mysterious grilles. The dancers in the friezes were described in 1932 as "Dancing Nymphs of the Egyptian Period" but Mr Monkey wasn't totally convinced that they really were Egyptian. The originals were made by the Art Plaster Company of Salford.
