After a stop to take on water at Denton, the train took Mr Monkey up the side of the Pennines, through Stalybridge, Mossley and Greenfield. By the time the train reached Diggle the Duchess of Sutherland was working so hard that the smoke even reached Mr Monkey at the back of the train. After Diggle going into the Standedge tunnel spoilt the view rather.
