Mr Monkey takes a Matcham tour, 21st February

"I suspect it's very bright if there's enough sun"

After leaving the Tower, Mr Monkey was led up Victoria Street to the Winter Gardens. Before going in, Mr Monkey looked at the longest frontage of seaside faience* in the country, applied to the outside of the building in 1929. In 1889 this side of the Winter Gardens site was occupied by Her Majesty's Opera House, which was designed by Frank Matcham.

You can read about the Winter Gardens at the Winter Gardens Blackpool website.

* A sort of white tiling, particularly used in the British seaside resorts.
