Leaving Chester station by a more complicated than strictly necessary route, Mr Monkey went past the Best Western Queen Hotel. This was built for £20,000 was built as the Queen's Railway Hotel in 1860, severely damaged by fire in 1861, and rebuilt in 1862. Mr Monkey was interested to see that you used to be able to hire carriages in what is now the carpark, and that Queen Victoria looks slightly put out at having to stand on the porch of the hotel.
