In Boom Years 1988-91 Mr Monkey learned about the changes in hip hop music caused by a shift from breakdancing to rapping. Record labels, both indie and major, liked the new sound and many performers found themselves with contracts. Mr Monkey watched Tim Westwood's Bad Meaning Good to get an overview of the London scene at the time, examined more posters and record sleeves, and had a look at MC Duke's Sequential Circuits Studio 440 drum machine.
You can read about the Studio 440 at the Vintage Synth Explorer website.
