When 3000 1 watt light emitting diodes had been switched on, the tour guide led Mr Monkey (and a lot of humans, too) towards the bridge. Mr Monkey looked up at the east pier then trotted to the platform beneath it. He looked up at the pier and was interested to learn that the wire meshing across the arches* deters publicity-seeking protestors as well as nest-seeking birds.
* The mesh doesn't show up in the pictures at all, of course.
