Mr Monkey visits the American Museum, 12th May

"They've got some interesting rooms here"

Mr Monkey thought that the best part of the museum was a set of rooms depicting American life from the early colonial period to the Civil War. All were recreated using parts of real buildings. Mr Monkey particularly liked Conkey's Tavern, where Captain Daniel Shay amused himself after the War of Independence by planning a rebellion against the new authorities. Mr Monkey also admired the gentle simplicity of the Amish room, though he's never been convinced that hanging chairs from walls is a big or clever thing to do.

You can read about Shay's Rebellion at the Calliope website.

Photography isn't allowed inside the American Museum, so in these pictures Mr Monkey is standing in front of scans from the museum guide book, Aspects of America.
