Mr Monkey walks the Macclesfield Canal from Marple to Wood Lanes, 17th March

"They're useful, milestones are"

Mr Monkey inspected the milestone at Lyme View Marina. The Macclesfield Canal Company had provided some sturdy milestones when they built the canal. During WW2 they were buried to confuse Germans invading by canal, but were found and restored by enthusiasts in the early 1980s. Mr Monkey was surprised to see that someone had removed the placename before burying the milestone. Having walked all of five miles from Marple Mr Monkey's humans insisted on going to the nearby Miner's Arms for a meal, so Mr Monkey went too.

You can read about the milestones at the Macclesfield Canal website.
