Mr Monkey in Fleetwood, 20th February

"They must have been annoyed when the west coast line was finished"

Mr Monkey had a look at the North Euston Hotel. When it was built in 1841 there was no direct rail link from London to Scotland, and travellers stayed overnight at the North Euston before taking a boat up the west coast. Mr Monkey looked out to sea and could just about see the remains of the Wyre light, which was the first offshore lighthouse in the world built on cast iron screw piles.

You can read about the Wyre light at the Engineering Timelines website.
